Feature Breakdown

FeatureRatingDetails
Security
5.0
Tangem uses a secure‑element chip certified at CC EAL6+, which generates private keys on‑card that never leave the hardware.
Cryptocurrency / Asset Support (Coins & Tokens)
4.5
Supports a very broad range of assets — thousands of cryptocurrencies and tokens across many blockchains, including major coins (BTC, ETH, etc.) and many altcoins.
Compatibility
3.5
Tangem works via a mobile app (iOS & Android) and uses NFC for interaction — so any NFC‑enabled, modern smartphone should work. But there’s no native desktop app, browser extension, or laptop support, which limits flexibility for users who also use desktops. Also, older or NFC-incompatible phones won’t work.
Ease of Use
4.5
Setup is simple and quick — basically tap the card with your phone, activate and you’re ready.
Portability
5.0
The wallet is roughly the size of a credit card (very slim, lightweight) — extremely easy to carry or store.

Tangem is a very strong, user-friendly cold wallet for people who prioritize ease-of-use and reliable long-term security over advanced crypto-power-user features.

Recommended For

Long-term holders (“HODLers”) or “set-and-forget” investors, Users who value portability, simplicity, and minimal fuss, beginners or less tech-savvy users who want crypto self-custody but don’t want to wrestle with seed-phrases, complex PC software, or advanced wallet setups, people with diversified crypto portfolios, and those who prefer minimal attack surface

Not Suitable For

Frequent traders, active DeFi or NFT users, or people doing advanced crypto operations, privacy-conscious users needing strong anonymity or multi-address management, users without an NFC-enabled smartphone (or who prefer desktops/laptops), people extremely concerned about maximum transparency or open-source code, and anyone who’s likely to misplace or damage physical cards

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tangem Wallet?

Tangem is a hardware (cold-storage) crypto wallet built into a card or ring. It stores your private keys on a secure chip inside the card/ring, which never connects to the internet. You use a mobile phone (via NFC) + the Tangem app to view your funds or sign transactions when needed.

Do I need a seed phrase / 12-/24-word mnemonic?

Not necessarily. With Tangem's “seedless” setup, the private key is generated on-card and never leaves the chip. That means you don’t get a written seed phrase — the card (or cards, if you have a backup set) is your access.

What happens if I lose one of my Tangem cards (or ring)?

Tangem usually comes as a set of 2 or 3 cards/ring-plus-cards. If you lose one, you can still access your crypto using the other(s), assuming you set up the backup correctly. However, if you lose all of them (and didn’t use a seed phrase), you could permanently lose access. That’s the main trade-off of the seedless model.

Do I need an internet connection or servers from Tangem to use the wallet?

No. Tangem is a “cold wallet”: the private key stays on the device and never touches the internet. Your phone + the app only acts as an interface to view balances and broadcast signed transactions. No Tangem servers are required.

What devices are compatible?

You need an NFC-enabled smartphone. For iOS: iOS 15.0 or later; for Android: Android 6.0 or later with NFC support.
